 Assessments and Psychotherapy

 Therapeutic Assessments

Relationship focused assessments begin a process of discovery that becomes more than fact-finding, but therapeutic in their own right.

We will explore your history and current situation (health, family, education, work, and other relevant areas of your life) in order to find patterns in your

relationships.

The therapeutic assessment will help you identify your strengths and needs, and provide you with alternatives for getting the help you want.

Some of those options include:

> short-term psychotherapy

> long-term, intensive psychotherapy

> in-depth assessments

> referrals to other professionals/programs

Short-Term PsychotherapyMild to Moderate Problems

Therapeutic assessments can lead to recommendations for psychotherapy that is likely to succeed

within two to six months of weekly sessions.

The following may may indicate the need for short-term psychotherapy:

> developmental transitions: first job, marriage, raising children, empty nest

> external events/situations: layoffs, disasters, disruptions for military families

> separation and loss: chronic / severe illness, loss of loved one, ending relationships

Long-Term Intensive Psychotherapy:   Moderate to Severe Problems

For those experiencing repeated failures in intimate relationships, employment, family life, or meeting life goals, more intensive, long-term psychotherapy may be indicated.

A strong and supportive psychotherapeutic relationship can help provide the support and challenges needed to explore, experiment and transform your most difficult, complex and distressing patterns of feelings and behavior.

Intensive psychotherapy typically includes two or more sessions a week for over six months.

Specific difficulties that may be addressed include:

> repeated episodes of depression

> significant anxiety, perfectionism, panic attacks

> bipolar / mood disorders

> eating disorders, self-destructive patterns of

    behavior

> unresolved grief, anger, resentment

 > repeated difficulties with intimate relationships
